Description

Artist & Curator in Conversation: 3 Questions

1. Describe your working process?

The dance of paint application, movement, direction, tools, and their manner of use inform the paintings sensibilities and significance, either as an object/painting unto itself or having further consequential narratives and visual theatrics beyond the surface.

2. What was your source of inspiration for your work in the exhibition?

How did the act of art making help in reflecting snd respond to the pandemic?
In mid-April I decided to self isolate myself from the family to try to break the continuing cycle of sickness. Being alone worked in breaking the cycle, but it also brought about the aloneness of Nova Scotia’s darkest days April 18 and 19, the Portapique massacre. Being alone and not being able to share communally the experience of grief and outrage during the pandemic led to work “ Fare Well Nova Scotia (into the light) with the intended meaning that you wish Nova Scotia to fare well during its darkest days.

3.How do you think the visual arts helps us understand the complex world around us?

I think the visual arts help us understand the unspeakable through the essence of a common shared experience.
